The celebration is recognition of the foundation of the WIA and the very start of organised amateur radio in Australia during 1910. It has also helped to focus renewed attention on the early history of amateur radio in this country through careful research in a way not previously known to have occurred. For the full year being January through December 2010 and with the help of it's members, the WIA will celebrate the Centenary of organised Amateur Radio in Australia.

Air-Stream Wireless have been regularly presenting at a number of community IT and other Amateur Radio events over the past few years with great success. Along with our regular monthly meetings we are often asked two common questions.
“What sort of equipment do I need to get connected?”
“What do I need to setup my own router for others to connect to me?”
Nothing seems to do the job better that the real thing and although we have tried our best to provide examples at these events. It always seems difficult to pull together the best examples, as they often go into service at some stage.
So we are asking business and our members to help by donating samples. Clearly it doesn’t matter if they work or not as these will only be used for display purposes.
As an added incentive for businesses who donate we give that an opportunity to promote their company alongside these samples with added mention on our website and when ever a picture of the sample is used in articles or promotions.
More great news for members in 2006…
Members will be pleased to know that our application for affiliated membership to the Wireless Institute of Australia has been accepted and our certificate of affiliation is expected to arrive soon. See information on their website at http://www.wia.org.au/

I have been a member of Air Stream Wireless since 2002, and involved in the establishment of a number of key sites in the network and was voted onto the committee in 2004 holding the position of Secretary till October 2008. I have recently retired from committee due to extra commitments at work and home with the birth our second child (daughter). However, I intend to continued my participation as an active member and strong advocate for Air-Stream Wireless.
My background is in electronics and industrial engineering, and was involved in the electronics manufacturing industry for over 15 years.
Currently, I am the CEO of SA Group Enterprises an organisation that provides employment for people with a disability. I am also involved in another technical interest group in Adelaide called Dorkbots. Some my other electronics projects can be seen on my Website here www.hardhack.org.au
My involvement in Community Wireless Network came about, as a result of experiences and challenges establishing a wireless network between different office locations in order to reduce IT costs within our organisation. From this experience I realised that Community Wireless Networks offers many benefits for the broader community and other non-profit organisations like my own and I am now working to promote these advantages to other organisations and individuals, to help continue to grow the network.
It also happens to be quite good fun and you meet many people with similar interests.
Projects I have been involved include:
I also provide a static IP for internet hosting of multi-homed services such as e-mail and jabber though the Melrose Park Node, so these services are available for other members both over the Internet and the wireless network.

Above is the shed, where I run a router connected to Highgate Park using a 25dbi grid dish antenna the router provides multihomed services with a firewall between the Air-Stream network and my local network. It also runs a VPN between my local network and my work network, providing easy access to work files, email and other services located at the Melrose Park.
On my local network I currently run three main service, a voip phone, a media server for the TV & Stereo system all are connected by a wireless network.
Another web server 10.112.1.10 is located in the shed with the router for sharing files and information with other AS members on the network.
