The objective of his research study is to address the role of community wireless networks on boosting social and economic development. Building and operating these networks accrue physical, social capital and human capital and that is how they boost social and economic developments. In particular, these grassroots initiatives bring the community together and increase the social ties and values between community members, and this how these networks accrue social capital. In addition, they are venues where volunteers can obtain technical expertise and leadership skills and these are the types of human capital they generate. The network itself and the related software that volunteers develop for the network are considered physical capital.
The purpose of this survey is to get some data to show how community wireless networks generate all forms of capital and, therefore, boost economic development.
