Radio Networking limitation

I recently installed Microsoft Live and a Microsoft Life Webcam 3000 to communicate with a contact in the US.

My PC was connected to my network with a Dlink card 802.11 spec.

I fought with connection fuzzy video, audio static and drop outs for a week, upgraded to a RJ45 cable link - problem solvered 11MBit does not provide enough band width, unles of couse I have missed something.

Off-Subject Post

This is not a relevant post location, however there are many factors involved with establishing a reliable wireless link.

Signal level and interference or proximity to other equipment
Driver support for a specific card, of which their are many, even between the same manufacturer
The AP type, age and firmare version used.
The mode compatibility between the AP and card eg 802.11a, 802.11b, 802.11g and 802.11n
Also CPU speed and memory can be an issue with older computers working with newer software

However, essentially there is little difference between a wireless connection and Ethernet when connecting to a Internet feed, if setup correctly. The main difference is data transfer speeds and latency. But even this is changing with the introduction of 802.11n with speeds exceeding 100base Ethernet.

Nevertheless, I'm not disputing that fixed wire or fiber networks is not superior, however there are many situations where running cables are not practical in the home, business, out & about or moving from one location to another.

So when wireless is setup correctly, it does offer exception flexibility, simplicity and little difference to fixed networks specially with Internet.
