Ok, so I went out and brought a A\G PCMCIA card. When it arrived home I had a tinker and saw that it indeed has an external connector.
As seen (poorly), here and here.
Any ideas? It looks a bit like a MC Card (Lucent) Connector.

I think it may be MMCX....
I think it may be MMCX....best to post the make and model of the card and I can help you better.
Given it look like surface
Given it look like surface mount connector I'd say its u.fl.
It looks like this:
nup
No, The U.fl has a pin in the centre. Im holding one now and it doesnt look the same. Alot of dlink, netgear and other pcmcia cards have a mmcx hidden on the board under the housing. Alledgedly used for testing or to be able to sell "featured" versions of the card.
for example, a 10 cent connector put on every single card in a batch of 10,000 can make more money if they sell the basic ver for $100 and the "featured" card with an external antenna jack for $20 more.
I still think it will turn out to be MMCX
