North

I thought this next meeting was going to be in the north?

guess i was mistaken.

Parkside Meetings

Nothing has been said to me and I'm the Committee Secretary and this would be something I should know about..?

However, the question of relocating meetings has been asked before, this is because unlike other community groups our membership is spread over a very large area, and no matter where the meeting will be held there will be someone who will want another location, and I guess while this continues it is a very healthy sign of growth :-)

We have discussed it at committee meetings as these are often held at alternate locations, but I guess the most overwhelming reason to stay where we are for member meetings is continuity. As member meetings have been happening at Parkside nearly every month for over 6 years, which makes it very easy for people to remember, specially visitors, guests or members that don't attend every meeting.

Nevertheless, this doesn't mean it couldn't change but such an important decision would only ever happen when the majority of members actually ask for it, however to-date there have only ever been the odd informal question and not always from the North.

I know that my only recent

I know that my only recent meeting was the last one but being from down south I would be less likely to attend a meeting in the north. I am a member of a number of interest groups and they all meet in the CBD or within a couple of mins.

If the meetings were held in the north (eg Mawson Lakes) I would imagine that it would limit potential new members from the south getting involved.

Ahh, I've since found out it

Ahh, I've since found out it wasnt the general meeting which was moved.

So just me getting mixed up, no biggie.

And Quarion, your correct, but also on the flip side there are a few Northerners interested, but Parkside is too far to go just for a meeting. So we cant win either way.

West is best!

Im in the far west and its quite a trip for me (up to 45mins) also however I support it being in parkside. Its quite central to Adelaide that we can use for meetings. Ive done the car pool plenty of times.

I for one being the best

I for one being the best part of 40 kms north of the city find the thought of the trip a little far.

Shawn thanks for your time the other day it was greatly appreciated.

meeting sites

cougar's picture

hey all we have a good network can we arrange teleconferencing for some meetings so we can have a site in the north say at Mawson Lakes, one down south and the central location at Parkside

a good demonstration of the network capabilities for visitors as well

I have run an audio stream

Shawn's picture

I have run an audio stream from the meeting before, with the capability of the external users participating in the meeting.

However, we are having some stability issues with the network at present, so its not really feasable, but when the network has some better uptime and we fix the dish at parkside, im sure we could setup Video and Audio streaming for those people unable to attend the meeting :)

Lucky Door Prize

Whats the lucky door prize?

Another item for the agenda

After the other couple of threads, I think it is worthwhile bringing up a few further topics for discussion at tonight's meeting.
Starting the ball rolling on formal policy covering a number of areas will go a long way to stopping the confusion and arguments that have occured to date.
Some items to be covered in the policy could be:

* access to the network
- who can access the network (members, non members, affiliate groups)
- ability to "trial" the network for new members
- the role captive portals will play in this (and what we can do to assist in their deployment).

* IP and BGP AS allocation
- who is responsible
- who is entitled
- access for the "trial" members
- what we can do to streamline the current process

* Yearly membership
- who is required
- benefits of having
- limits of not having

I am aware that a number of these items are covered already on the website. This provides a good platform to work from.
I think the recent confusion and differences highlights the importance of bringing these items up for discussion (preferably in a meeting rather than on the Internet - forums, irc, msn etc), so they can be consolidated.

is it going to be in the

is it going to be in the same room as last time? it was a lil cramped in there.
