Unfortunately WRAP board at the Woodville-West site has *died* it doesnt power up and the ethernet controller chip get extremely hot.
Im not real happy about this, but it happens.
I will order another board tommorrow, but it won't be operational until probably tuesday.
This time I will get a WRAP1-1 instead of the WRAP2 as it has 2 ethernet ports and 2 miniPCI. This will give an extra ethernet port over the WRAP2.

not good
I heard this at the committee meeting last night, its not good those boards are not cheap, wasnt a lightning zap from the storm yesterday afternoon was it?
hope you get it sorted .

What a pain
I know how this feels, I have too many dead things in my shead that I'd wouldn't like to admit. All as a result of "oooo it works" then "hmm I wounder" then you see that little stream of smoke or everthing just stops.
If only I had a bottomless bot of money :-P
Good news
Well the good news is I have ordered a new WRAP. This time a 1-1 board with extra ethernet (2x miniPCI and 2x ethernet). This also has the option of putting aa USB interface on, though Im not sure I would find a use for that.
Also, Paul from Yawarra has said that he is able to replace the dead WRAP, so that is absolutly fantastic news.
There is no evidence of any lightning strikes at the site, I think it was just bad luck.
Everyone should check out their website... they provide a great service.
I have also organised to try a new OS on the WRAP that should make configs easier, while providing some uniformity with current Air-Stream gear.

Thats excellent news on the
Thats excellent news on the replacement of your current WRAP brian! Glad to hear that.
As for the OS, Troy has been doing some documentation on his\the air-stream OS so that mite be a possibility. It should have everything you need on it ;)
Grange
Are you still planning to link to Grange in the future?
yup
with the extra ethernet port, we could do it straight away if you have hardware available.
What I was going to post
What I was going to post before the WRAP decided the same thing Big Brother did - "I want to die"
The day before it died, I was doing the usual, aligning the antenna to APANA and doing an "iwlist wlanx scan"
the usual result was a group of about 5 to 8 networks on wlan0 and about 3 on wlan1.
that day I got a list of 27 networks on one interface and 10 on the other, including:
Directional 25dBi pointed at APANA-NW:
Air-Stream-Carrick-Hill-2
Air-Stream-APANA-NE
Air-Stream-Julia-Farr-North
Air-Stream-Glen-Osmond (actually associated automatically to here!)
Air-Stream-Julia-Farr-NW
Air-Stream-Skye

aawrl-n

OLXWAN
aitel-city-Oakden-1
awol-city-w-1
(and others with no ssid)
OMNI:
Air-Stream-Grange
aawrl-n
BBAnywhere
Citystate

Air-Stream-Ottoway (!!!!!!)

(and others with no ssid)
I consistantly picked up Ottoway which was a surprise.
In other news I am designing a new mast that will be alot more rigid, about 2m higher and use the same pivot idea that makes it so easy to bring down the antennas and AP.
Im choking at the bit to get the WRAP1-1 on monday!
update
I walked out the front door today and couldnt believe it...on the porch was an express satchel containing the new WRAP1-1! Boy that was quick, I only ordered on Friday.
So yesterday when I was sitting here for 3HOURS wondering what to do, the board was sitting there the whole time!
The bad news is I dont have the CF card or the wireless cards here, and I need to make a new enclosure as the 1-1 is a bit bigger and has an extra interface.
Well.. off to work :)
