Got the box back up on a 40G HD now and can pass packets onto the Air-Stream network.
Now for all the fun upgrading and conf file tweaking - ouch!

What do you need to know?
The conf whilst somewhat complex at first appearance isn't that hard ...
Start off with a small simple network and check all is working correctly, then you can build it up - make conf changes small at a time - a single typo/mistake will cause an error on nagios restart.
And of course RTFM!

Basically I have been running taceroute or ping -R to an IP and using the output to create nagios conf but I have not fully automated the process as yet, another day for that bash script exercise ;-)

Debian Etch Up!

ross's picture

After a bit of mucking around I have finally gotten Debian Etch (latest and greatest) installed and booting on my old-world BeigeG3 box.
Unfortunately I could not install from the DVD as my spare DVD drive is kaput, guess I could have tried for a net install but I have the CD install of Etch so used that. Initially I installed Debian Woody but it is pretty old now so killed that off and went straight to Etch instead of apt-get dist-upgrade(ing) all the way up to Etch.

Now have a very very minimal system up and running - not even sshd is installed!! I gotta sit at the box - yikes! Now for the conf fun :-/

Betsuin G3 Wifi Router Up

The BeigeG3 appears to be now running happily.
A donated 256MB SD RAM stick has brought the box up to 384MB - the HD is now 40GB split into 600MB swap and 2 x ~20GB etx3 partitions. Services ae not yet up and running as before but they will as I get around to them. Found my nagios.conf on a back-up which was a relief! Now just to install it ..
