Skye Outage (24/10/10)

Skye is undergoing an upgrade today and will be offline from approximately 1pm until further notice. This upgrade should improve the quality of service to Skyes client, all backbones will remain unchanged. My apologies for any inconvenience caused.

[UPDATE]

Skye is now back online with two dedicated sector antennas for client access. AP name and WEP keys have stayed the same.

802.11n finally ratified

Roughly 7 years in the making, the specifications for the 802.11n protocol has been ratified.

The standard is due to be published (officially) somewhere in the middle of October. That said, very little has changed since the Draft 2.0 that was released in the March 2007; in fact I think everything else is an optional extra.

Bring on 300Mbps :)

Skye-Walker Upgraded (22/08/09)

Retired CM9
The Skye-Walker backbone underwent some upgrades today, the interface was upgraded to a Mikrotik R5H - and the CM9 that was there before it was unceremoniously removed from duty.

The upgrades have already displayed an increase in link quality (Tx CCQ within Winbox), as well as a more accurate reporting of the Noise floor between the links.

The Walkerville end will also be upgraded shortly - it is currently running a CM9 and will be upgraded to a R5H. The CM9's were installed in 2006 and were originally connecting Skye-2 to Walkerville, the cards came along with the site relocation (current site is technically Skye-3) which occured in 2007.

Skye and Highgate Outate 02/08/2008

Skye and Highgate will be down today whilst they undergoe routine maintance and upgrades, which will hopefully improve reliability and performance.
They should be back up later this afternoon.

Cheers,
Duncan

Skye Outage (22 - 26th March)

The Skye AP is currently down, the main router for it decided to pack it in and refuses to stay up for more than a few seconds after booting. Initially thought to be a power supply issue, but it seems the motherboard has died. We're working on sourcing a replacement board/system (Potentially WRAP2's). Many apologies for the down time, but rest assured we are working to restore the site as soon as feasible!

Update: 26th March

All backbones and AP access have been restored, many thanks go to Chris for supplying the new motherboard, CPU and RAM to complete the fix.
