As some of you are aware the Committee has asked me to head the Amateur Radio sub- committee to help liaise and build relationships with other amateurs clubs groups and individuals. This will help develop a synergy between Air Stream and Amateurs in this state.
Many of the goals and technologies of the 2 communities are similar and the committee hope that this can be an advantageous relationship for all.
Currently I am the only member of this sub committee and I am inviting any interested members to contact the committee or myself if they would like to participate in the Amateur radio sub committee.
You do not need to be an Amateur to help, but be aware you may be bitten by the amateur bug ;)
Currently we have 6 members who are new amateurs and awaiting their call signs from ACMA
I would like to think this will generate more interest and other members may decide to sit the examinations and perhaps if we get enough interest we can hold our own Foundation license course and examination. Perhaps our own Amateur club station with its own Callsign?
Other activities I would like to see are interclub meetings, network projects allowing our network team to help amateur clubs with possible new sites, co-siteing Amateur repeaters with Air Stream nodes, developing backhaul paths for Amateur groups to control repeater functionality via the AS network.
There are numerous other things that can be done but to do this and get it happening I need help from members
Over to you
